This training program is planned for Ph.D. Scholars and Faculty to improve their knowledge and skills in Research Methodology, Biostatistics, and preparation of scientific writing. This course was started in 2013 for the benefit of Postgraduates and Faculty of this Medical Institute as classroom teaching. During the Covid 19 era, this course was converted into an online course. At every stage, the course was fine-tuned by getting feedback from the participants, and at present, there are 21 sessions in this course. Experienced speakers of this Institute dealt with all the sessions. An online assignment was given for each session and evaluated by the respective speaker.

Prof. Reddy had rendered distinguished service as the Dean of JIPMER, Pondicherry- a Centre of National importance, from 2004 onwards till superannuation in May 2014. Prior to this appointment, Prof. Reddy had served, JIPMER from April 1978 onwards in various capacities. He was largely instrumental in establishing the department of Radiotherapy at JIPMER that was later upgraded to the status of a Regional Cancer Center. It is noteworthy to mention that the Regional Cancer Center at JIPMER was dedicated to the nation at his initiative and Prof. Reddy functioned as its Director.
A distinguished postgraduate teacher and guide/co-guide for several MD/MS – PG students in Radiotherapy, Radio diagnosis, Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Anatomy. Prof. Reddy has been a research supervisor for PhD programs in Clinical Pharmacology and Medical Physics.
Following superannuation at JIPMER, Prof. Reddy joined Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute (MGMCRI), Puducherry where he had worked as a Professor of Radiation Oncology and Head of Quality Management Services for five years (2014-19). As a Professor of Eminence at MGMCRI, Prof. Reddy had served from June 2019 to Jan 2023, and was appointed as Dean Research, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth from 2023 onwards. Dr. Reddy has 139 publications to his credit in peer reviewed, indexed national and International journals of repute.

Course Coordinator

Dr. G. Ezhumalai

Professor of Biostatistics, SBV

Dr.G.Ezhumalai is the course coordinator for Research Methodology, Biostatistics and preparation of Scientific Manuscript course.  He joined in this reputed Institute during 2013 after retirement as Assistant Director in the DPH & PM, Tamilnadu.  He is holding a master degree in Statistics and Ph.D in Applied Statistics. He also attended a course on “Epidemiology and Biostatistics” sponsored by WHO, India at Khan Kaen University, Thailand.  He has a vast experience in teaching Research methodology and biostatistics to UG/PG/Ph.D /Faculty  in medicine, Nursing, Dental, Physiotherapy, Allied Health Sciences and all other students in various discipline of all the constituent colleges of SBV. He published 54 articles of which 24 were in Scopus.

Methodology for RMBS

This course is based on self-study. It consists of 22 lessons taken by experts. Each lesson consists of 4 sections namely a) introduction to the teacher b) e-material for the lesson c) objectives of the video lesson and the video lesson d) quiz on the lesson. A discussion forum will be there to clarify the doubts.  

 The participants have to register and enroll in the course by making the payment. Starting and end dates to access the course will be informed to the participants as well as displayed in the course page well in advance.  They are expected to listen to each of the videos and read the background materials. They have to mark each section as complete before proceeding to the next section. After completion of the session, they have to appear for the MCQ test. The participants are expected to pass the test within three attempts, Your score will be displayed after each attempt. If you have not passed, you can go through the reading material and the video before attempting the second time. The question order and the options will be randomly changed by the program for each attempt, so pay attention to the question and the options. If the number of attempts is exceeded, you have to request the course coordinator to permit additional attempt to complete the same. In addition to this, the minimum mark to get a pass for each session and also the overall sessions will be 60%.  After the expiry of the last date the website will be closed for the batch and the participant can’t access thereafter. The scholars should attend the training again if they are unable to get a pass in the first attempt as per Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth guidelines.

Objective of the Course

  • To provide knowledge on Research Methodology.
  • To explain the basic concept of Biostatistics and improve their ability to estimate sample size and plan for statistical analysis.
  • To sensitize about Ethics in Research involving both humans and animals.
  • To improve their skills in developing a Research Protocol.
  • To develop their skills in writing results and reports.

Expected Outcomes

On completion of the training program, the participants will be:

  • Able to write a develop a research proposal as per requirement
  • Able to plan appropriate Statistical methods for data analysis
  • Able to fill in forms required to be submitted to  IRC /IHEC /Institute Animal Ethics Committee
  • Able to write results and reports for their Research.
